I didn’t grow up loving the kitchen. In fact, I always loved the idea of something good simmering and stirring a pot, the prep, the set up… the styling of the table; oh that was my jam. Come the end of the meal though, I’d try and make myself scarce. The cleanup was my nemesis and I could just never escape it.

And so, the adult version of that little girl who would flit through the dining room lining up plates and pulling out the “good glasses” yet would roll her eyes (in secret) come time to wash said “good glasses” goes through phases. There is an ebb and flow to my creativity in the kitchen, and I have to say, the fall/winter season is like a current that pulls me in. I crave a pot of something good simmering on the stove, I want the scent of the season’s spices wafting through our home. I like stirring and mixing. But the cleanup? Oh we’re still at odds, it’s just that the cooking wins over this time of year and I flit and cook anyway.

We’ve been making more intentional choices as a family lately, meal planning together, dinner ’round the table and slowly shaking off thelaissez-faire attitude of summer where meals were a bit more haphazard and oft spent out rather than in. I smile as my daughter asks to set out the “good glasses” knowing full well she’ll sigh and then help wash after dinner is over and I grin as my youngest boy counts how many forks to set out. Every time, he counts every time.

In looking at the food I serve my family, I’m continuing to make more intentional choices for my littlest as well. As she grows, she needs foods full of nutrition in flavor combinations that she likes. It’s the perfect time to infuse those same scents of the season that I love into her meals too. And yes, though she eats at the table with us, and often bits of what we eat, I’ve also found that she get’s the best meals when she also has a bowl of something smooth to feed herself as well.

So while I’ve been stirring and simmering in the kitchen, I’ve also been whirring some goodness together for Aria. Hats off to a complete baby food making system, Baby Bullet. I can chop and dice for our favorite fall soup while I toss a bit here and there into the base cup and she’s eating fresh and healthy all week on it!

A couple of Aria’s favorite fall inspired recipes that I can whip up quickly:

Homemade Baby Food: Favorite Fall Recipes (10) Homemade Baby Food: Favorite Fall Recipes (11)Pumpkin + Yogurt + Banana

(It’s NOT pumpkin pie, but it’s sure close if you add a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg. Feed your baby while you sip a steaming cup of chai and you’ll be temped to eat the whole thing yourself.)

Ingredients

  • 1/2small organic Pie Pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup Greek Yogurt
  • 1 Banana

Seed and skin 1/2 pumpkin. To skin a pumpkin cut into hand size pieces and with a knife, cut away the tough skin. Chop pumpkin into bite size pieces.

Place pumpkin onto the Baby Bullet steam tray, add in water, cover and let cook for 10 minutes.

Let cool slightly.

Place pumpkin, yogurt and banana into Baby Bullet and puree until smooth.

Will last 4 days in fridge or 3 months in freezer.

Homemade Baby Food: Favorite Fall Recipes (12) Homemade Baby Food: Favorite Fall Recipes (13)Pear + Oats + Dates + Cloves

(A perfectly delicious warm breakfast for the incoming cool mornings, full of fiber for energy and anti-inflammatory support from the cloves for a growing babe’s quintessential bumps and bruises.)

Ingredients

  • 2 organic Pears
  • 1/4 cup dry Oats
  • 3 Dates
  • 1 cup Water

Core and chop pear into bite size pieces.Combine pear, oats, water and cloves into medium saucepan and heat on medium-low for 10-15 minutes or until pear is tender
Meanwhile, place dates in small bowl and cover with very warm water. Soak for 10 minutes.
Remove cloves and combine all ingredients into Baby Bullet to puree until you reach desired consistency. If needed, you can add the date water to puree for a thinner puree. Blend smooth or leave chunky, depending at which stage your little one is at.Will last for 4 days in an air-tight container in fridge or 3 months in freezer.

The Baby Bullet Steamer has been amazing! I have to say, one of the reasons that would keep me from making baby food at times was the amount of time it took (some root vegetables would need to bake forever), and the cleanup because of all the pans! Now, I can chop, throw in the steamer, add a little water and before every else’s dinner is on the table, I’m blending up baby food for the rest of the week.It also works as a convenient sanitizer for pacifiers, bottle accessories and teething toys! Plus, we just can’t get over the smiley, happy faces on everything… I mean, how can you not smile just looking at the steamer, mixer and date-dial storage cups?! Happy food, happy baby.🙂
